Jean-Elysée PUIFORCAT (1897-1945)

Founded in Paris in 1820 by Emile Puiforcat, this business notably owes its reputation to Jean Puiforcat, a fourth generation member who wrote the most beautiful pages of its history nearly a century later and put the company at the forefront of modern jewelry.

Immersed in the wave of artistic renewal that marks the interwar years, Jean Puiforcat in 1929 was one of the founders of l’Union des Artistes Modernes (the Union of Modern Artists) and befriended Rene Herbst, Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Chareau.

Characterized by architecturally clean lines, a notable simplicity and the marriage of sterling silver with other precious materials such as exotic wood, strong stones and galuchat (shagreen), the Art Deco style of Jean Puiforcat is the founder of contemporary goldsmithing.
